About Upper Michigan Community Credit Union
Upper Michigan Community Credit Union (UMCCU) proudly serves the people of Alger, Delta, Marquette, and Schoolcraft Counties. We offer a full range of products and services at our two Alger County locations: Munising and Trenary.
At UMCCU, our focus is to offer our members high quality financial services and exceptional personal service while improving the communities which we serve through the sharing of our time, talents and resources.
Upper Michigan Community Credit Union comes from humble origins and hardworking people. The first credit union in Munising was started by a group of Munising Paper Products employees who were looking for low-cost credit alternatives. The Munising Paper Products Credit Union was organized in April 1954 and served only Munising Paper Products (now Neenah Paper) employees and their families. Munising Community Credit Union (MCCU) was organized by a group of local citizens who wanted to enjoy the benefits of a credit union but could not join the mill’s credit union.
In November of 1971, Munising Paper Products Credit Union merged with MCCU and kept the name of Munising Community Credit Union. The new credit union served all residents of Alger County. Munising Community Credit Union enjoyed growth and expanded its field of membership to include Delta, Marquette, and Schoolcraft counties. MCCU grew to over 4,200 members strong, with assets of over $27 million.
Trenary Co-op Federal Credit Union (TCFCU) was organized in 1951 as an associational credit union to serve people who patronized the Trenary Farmers’ Cooperative Store. Their purpose was to provide financial advice and a competitively priced complete line of financial products and services. TCFCU served over 700 members, with assets of over $2.7 million.
Late 2013, Munising Community Credit Union and Trenary Co-op Federal Credit Union announced their intent to merge and conduct business under the name Upper Michigan Community Credit Union. The new name was chosen to show the credit unions desire to continue growth and expansion. Blending the organizations together created a significantly stronger credit union and improved the value delivered to the members of both credit unions.
Our Credit Union will provide high quality financial services to the members, educate members about these services, and promote the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People”.Go to main navigation
